There’s a lot of asymmetries of the human body that you might not be aware of. Some of the more common ones are:-
The left and right hemispheres of the brain have different functions and they control the opposite sides of the body.
There is less organs on the left side of the body. While your heart is on the left the the Liver, Gallbladder, Pancreas, and Appendix are on your right hand side making your body more heavier on that side.
The diaphragm is different on both sides of the body. The right diaphragm sitting higher and in more of a domed position while the left is in more of a flat position
Due to the difference of the organs on either side of the body the lungs act in a slightly different way. Due to the weight on the right side the lung can be used more optimally for respiratory purposes. Whereas the left lung does function for respiratory purposes but is also used for stabilisation purposes.
Due to these asymmetries of the human body we need to look at the body when analysing and restoring movement.
When carrying out analysis of the human body, in relation to posture, we see a lot more of these asymmetries; e.g. one hip could be higher or further forward compared to the other, one scapular could be higher than the other. You also might notice one hip goes back further compared to the other, your rib cage could be rotated more to one side and your head can also be rotated too.
If any of this sounds familiar or you feel that some thing in you body or movement is off and want to explore this reach out over my email or phone and I could answer your questions.
